Ways to Ship your Car Overseas

Ways to Ship your Car Overseas

Irrespective of the country you wish to ship your car to, most Australian car shipping companies will always present you with two options – container shipping and Roll on/Roll off (RoRo). Broadly speaking, both the options are quite similar; however, the choice of shipping your car from Australia to another country using one of the two options will determine the shipping cost. The price of delivering your car depend on the option you choose. However, you’ll need to understand your shipping needs in relation to the shipping options. Let us try to find out the best option to ship your car overseas:

Roll on/Roll off

These shipping vessels have been designed specifically to transport trucks and cars, which is why majority of the customers prefer this option. Even car manufacturers shipping their vehicles to different countries prefer the RoRo. Instead of leasing or buying shipping containers for sale, you can always try the RoRo shipping option.

The modern RoRo vessels have a huge size, which ultimately translates into a greater car holding capacity. A standard RoRo vessel can hold up to 6,000 cars during a single sailing and it’s really easy to load the cars on to the vessels. Actually, there are ramps to drive the car to their parking space and securing them during the journey. Since little effort goes into loading the car and also owing to the larger space, greater number of vehicles can be loaded on the vessel, which ultimately leads to lower cost of shipping.

The biggest downside of the RoRo shipping option is that the consignee is not allowed to ship any kind of personal items in the car. The primary reason behind this restriction is that the personal items are not covered by the insurance. The only item that will be insured is the vehicle and the car or truck has to stay unlocked during the entire journey so that it can be moved, if the need ever arises.

In case you feel that RoRo can’t fulfil your vehicle shipping requirements then you can always buy shipping containers for sale. People often prefer shipping container when they are unable to ship a particular type of vehicle on the RoRo vessels or when the destination port lacks the facility of docking a RoRo vessel.

The shipping come in two standard sizes 20ft shipping container and 40ft shipping container. Both types of shipping containers are available with the companies that operate in Australia. You can easily fit a single vehicle inside the 20ft shipping container and two standard size vehicles inside the 40ft shipping container. Now, if you have only a single or two vehicles to ship while shifting to a new country then it is more cost effective to buy shipping containers for sale.

Thus, while you set out to ship your car to a new country, you need to identify the right shipping option. You need to consider whether you will be shipping personal items along with your vehicle or not. In case you’re moving to a new country, it’s better to buy shipping containers as that gives you the option of packing in some personal belongings with your car as well. Choose wisely so that you are able to save both money and time while moving to a new place.
