Standard Dry Containers vs High Cube Shipping Containers Darwin

Standard Dry Containers vs High Cube Shipping Containers Darwin

Difference of Standard Dry Containers and High Cube Shipping Containers Darwin

In most cases, clients are still unfamiliar of what a general purpose (GP) and high cube (HC) containers are. Most of them would ask for the description of these containers and what are the differences between the two. Apparently, though both containers generally share almost the same description and appearance but the two containers also have some differences such as in height, weight. A high cube container is basically 1 foot taller at 9.6 foot than the standard at 8.6 foot tall.

General purpose containers are the most common container type in the market and are being used in global transportation however high cube containers are also widely used especially for storage and modification purpose mainly because it has a bigger capacity. These shipping containers Darwin are very helpful in the modern-day containerization and innovative uses and transformation. To further discuss the difference between these two containers, here are the common features that differentiate them:

Container Height

Standard shipping containers are the most common containers available in the market. It comes in different sizes such as 10 foot, 20 foot, 40 foot and 45 foot. But common containers that are available in the market are the 20 foot container for sale and 40 foot container for sale.

As mentioned above, the primary difference between the standard container and high cube container is the height. Standard container external measures at 8’6 foot tall or 2.59 meters whereas high cube container measures 9’6 foot tall or 2.89 meters. Standard container door height measures at 7.5 foot and high cube door at 8’5 foot. Basically, getting a high cube container will gain you more space when used for on-site storage and conversions.

Container Weight

Another distinct difference between standard and high cube container is the weight. Generally, because of the height difference, weight difference also follows. The 40 foot standard container weighs at 8000 lbs and 40 ft high cube 8775 at lbs. But both containers have a maximum gross weight of 67,200 lbs including cargos inside when shipping. All other specification remains the same such as width, length and materials.

Container Price

Evidently, because of the size difference, prices for standard dry container and high cube container will also have a difference. High cube container will cost higher compared to the standard size. Depending on your preference and budget either of the two is a good option.
