13 Types of Shipping Containers

Shipping containers are an essential part of the shipping industry and come in a large variety of shapes and types. The primary objective of a container is to protect the contents within it over a long journey so that they can arrive at their final destination safely. Below are some of the types of shipping containers that can be found.

Dry storage containers – These are the most popular and widely used shipping containers in the industry and come in plenty of sizes like 10ft shipping containers, 20ft shipping container and 40ft shipping container to suit the needs of any client.

Flat rack containers –This type of shipping container has sides that collapse and can be folded with ease to make what is known as a flat rack, making it easy to ship a broad range of products across the world.

Open top shipping containers – As the name says, these shipping containers open from the top, and this makes it easy to load materials of different heights.

Tunnel containers – Tunnel containers have doors that open on both ends, and this is useful for unloading and loading goods quicker as compared to other containers.

Open side storage containers – Open side storage containers have doors that transform into completely open sides, which create more room for the loading of goods.

Double door containers – Double door containers come with double doors as the name states, and they provide more storage room for both unloading and loading purposes.

Refrigerated containers – Refrigerated containers are very special containers as they are temperature regulated. These are used to ship perishable products like vegetables and fruits over long distances.

Tanks – Tanks are used to transport liquid materials because they cannot be transported in any other type of container. These containers are known to be made of steel, which helps to protect the goods inside it.

Half height containers – Half height shipping containers are half the size of a full sized container and are made of steel. These are used to transport things like stones and coal.

Car carrier containers – Car carrier shipping containers are mainly used to ship vehicles over long distances and come with collapsible sides, which makes it easy to fit a car without even damaging it.

Intermediate bulk shift containers – Intermediate bulk shift shipping containers are specially made for the intermediate shipping of items. These containers can carry large amounts of goods and are used by organisations to ship items to a place where they will be packed further before they are sent to their final destination.

Drums – Drums are circular containers that are made of lightweight metals and steel. These are suitable for shipping liquid materials from one place to another due to their small size.

Special purpose containers – Special purpose containers are mainly used for high profile services like weapon shipping.
