Classification of Dangerous Goods Stored in Shipping Containers

 Dangerous goods or hazardous goods are items and substances with hazardous properties which, if not properly controlled may cause a potential threat to human health and safety and risk to properties, infrastructure, transport and environment. Such dangerous goods are explosives, flammable liquids, radioactive materials, LPG, acids and dangerous chemicals. Shipping containers for sale is a flexible and brilliant invention that can be used in more ways we can imagine. From its useful storage solution to building temporary space. But perhaps the most challenging is the storage and transportation of harmful goods. 

 

 

In the transportation of dangerous goods, it is being controlled and governed by a variety of regulatory regimes that operates both national and international levels. Some of the prominent sectors in the transportation of dangerous good includes United Nations Recommendations, IATA’s Dangerous Goods Regulations and IMO’s International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code. These regimes direct and control which dangerous goods are to be handled, packaged, labelled and transported. Locally, National Transport Commision maintains and updates the Australian Code for the transport of dangerous goods by road and rail and its associated Model Law. 

Furthermore, transporting dangerous goods are very crucial. The safety of all parties involved has to be given equal priority. Meeting all the requirements for transporting dangerous goods in a shipping container is challenging but with enough information and with the guidance of the agencies mentioned above it can be done. Dangerous goods can be transported on either 20 foot container for sale or 40 foot container for sale.There are nine classes of dangerous goods that are identified with a unique UN number. Depending on the nature of danger identified in each good they are classified as category 1 is the most dangerous and category 9 is the least dangerous. 

Dangerous Goods Classiification: 

 

Class 1- Explosives 

Class 2- Gases (flammable, non-flammable, non-toxic and toxic gases) 

Class 3- Flammable liquids 

Class 4- Flammable solids 

Class 5- Oxidizing substances 

Class 6- Toxic and infectious substance 

Class 7- Radioactive material 

Class 8- Corrosives 

Class 9- Miscellaneous dangerous goods
